But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. -1 John 1:7
Koinonia is the word translated here “fellowship.” If we are walking in the light of our Lord, we have fellowship with one another. What does that really mean?
Two words are associated with koinonia. The first indicates the disciples held all property in common. A marketplace or a fountain was the mutual property of the community. This implies a mutuality, a common holding of resources, a sharing of what we have together.
Many of us feel that we have nothing of resource to offer our brothers and sisters in Christ. Some also feel that their brothers and sisters in Christ have nothing to offer them. According to the Scripture, neither of these positions is God’s will for us.
If nothing else, we have the resource of a heart with which to love, ears with which to listen, and hands with which to care.
Are your resources being shared with others? Let us walk in the light of the Lord together. Let us have koinonia.
