We Are Chosen

"You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you." -John 15:16

At the time of our salvation, the emphasis is on our making a choice to serve the Lord. We go to the altar. We repent. We turn to Him. But as in the old adage that says the girl lets the boy chase her until she catches him, God had His eye on us long before we turned to Him. He chose us!

We are sometimes tempted to think we might be that one person God regretted creating. That He was surprised at our birth, or that we have such a broken past there is no hope for our future. But in God’s system of things, nothing is beyond His gracious plan of redemption! He loves us with everlasting love (Jer. 31:3), and He drew us to Himself with gentle cords of love (Hos. 11:4). He chose us.

He chose us for a purpose. This text says that He has appointed us to bear fruit, and our fruit should remain. Let us live in the confidence that God knew what He was doing when He chose us.
