Until He Comes

...who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” -Acts 1:11

Before His death, Jesus promised His disciples that not only would He be resurrected, but also that He would return again. (John 14:3). At His ascension, Jesus reiterates His promise. The angel’s words to the disciples seem to imply, “Don’t just stand there looking at the sky! Jesus is going to return as He promised. Until then, go and do what He told you to do.”

There are two very human responses to the promises the Lord has given us. First, we get so caught up in the moment that we lose sight of the promise entirely. In our times of trial or feverish activity, the promise of God’s good work in us is simply set aside. Second, we can become so captivated by God’s promise for our future that we neglect the tasks He has given us today, which is to become the pathway of fulfillment for all He has promised.

Be reminded, Jesus is coming again! There is much to do to prepare ourselves and to reach the world around us in His love.
