Stewarding the Earth

For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor. -Psalm 8:5

Not only is man intrinsically distinct from the rest of creation, but he has been given authority over the earth and everything upon it. Mankind was made to govern creation!

As believers, we often focus our authority in spiritual realms (Eph. 2:6, 7), but our first charge was to steward and protect the well-being of our planet.

The earth’s mineral resources, water, air and animal life all fall under our responsibility and should be the concern of every government and individual. Can we allow things to be harmed or destroyed that the Creator placed on this earth and committed to our care? Can we risk polluting God’s creation? Do we dare to allow needless suffering, or the taking of human life? Let there be a resounding “No” in our hearts today as we step into our God-ordained place of governing and stewarding.
