Living in the Light

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. -1 John 1:7

God is a God of light. Those who are His children do not walk in darkness. Though we have passed from darkness to light, we have not reached perfection. While we have become “new creatures,” we have not yet fully escaped our sin nature. While we no longer walk in darkness, John states that we deceive ourselves if we say that we have no sin.

In spite of our sin, we do not have to face judgment alone! Jesus Christ is our Advocate (our defender or attorney) before the eternal justice of the Father (1 John 2:1). Sin’s price must be paid. Jesus can free us from the guilt of sin because He has already suffered the penalty for sin on the cross.

Thus, we have the remedy for sin: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us” (1 John 1:9). Let us bring any unconfessed sin to the Lord today. Then let us live in the light.
