Filled with His Word

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. -Colossians 3:16

The definitions of the two principal words translated “word” in Scripture give us an understanding of the Word of God in our lives.

Logos is a transmission of thought, a word of explanation, an oracle, or divine revelation. Davar means a word, a speech, a matter, or thing. Note the similarity between the Hebrew davar and the Greek logos. Jesus is the living Logos (John 1:1), the Bible is the written logos (Heb. 4:12), and the Holy Spirit utters the spoken logos (1 Cor. 2:13). Jesus is the Davar of the Old Testament, and the Logos of the New Testament. He is the message of the entire book.

Jesus became the physical embodiment of the Word of God—in much the same way God wants to dwell within each of us. As we study the Scriptures today, let us ask the Lord how He wants to fill us with His Word.
