The Father’s Gifts

For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. -Romans 12:3

These words preface a list of gifts that our Father and Creator has given in varied measures and groupings to human beings. The seven categories noted in Romans 12:6–8 have sometimes been called “the motivating gifts” of God. In other words, God has given everyone “a measure of faith,” that is, a beginning point for responding to His will for them. This starting point is activated as each person realizes and uses the unique and distinct gift they have. Each of us are called to serve others by acting on the inclinations God has placed within us to motivate our vocations and our ministries.

In this December season, come before Father God with both gratitude and teachableness. Gratitude to thank Him for the fact He has invested something of His creative potential in us. Then teachableness, saying, “Father, show me more about how the gifts You have given me (some of which I may not even yet recognize or acknowledge) might glorify You as I fulfill Your creative purposes invested in me.”
