Crowns of Glory

And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away. -1 Peter 5:4

The Chief Shepherd is coming to reward those who have faithfully served His flock. Those who witness the sufferings of Christ will also partake of the “glory that will be revealed” (v.1). These leaders will receive a crown which signifies their triumph over obstacles and their fidelity to the people of their mission and call. This crown is not a garland similar to what is worn by military victors or athletes in games. Those awards wither, fade, and are forgotten with the next military campaign or the next victor in sport. The Lord’s rewards are eternal.

“God is not unjust to forget your … labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister” (Heb. 6:10). The Lord Jesus gives gifts of ministries to serve His body (Eph. 4:11), cares deeply and rewards richly those who have chosen to serve. Do not be weary in the call. The Lord sees our service, knows our struggle, and He is faithful to remember.
