God wants us to see what He’s made available, what is in motion, and how to partner with Him as those things process. To “take the Kingdom” is to move forward with passionate commitment to the will and purpose of God, not only in the affairs of your own life, but also in the circumstances that surround you and in the issues that challenge our world. It’s keeping focused on what God’s called us to become, refusing to be swept away by whatever trials we may personally face.

No matter how distant your circumstances seem to be from what you wish they were, God is never unaware of where you are. Jesus has the keys to not only the way in, but also to the way out, and He promises to trample everything of hell along the way. Jesus says, “I am the Alpha and Omega, author and finisher of your faith. “I have been anointed with fresh oil!” declares the psalmist, even as he is beset by a flourishing adversary. God promises to refresh and strengthen His people with the “fresh oil anointing” of His Spirit so that we may flourish in the midst of and beyond our trials. Angels are ministering spirits bringing a message commissioned by God, speaking to us today just as they did to people in the Bible. To Zacharias they announced fulfillment of a promise he’d almost given up hoping for; to the virgin Mary, they spoke of the unimaginable; and to Joseph, who suspected his trust had been violated, that what seemed a disappointment was going to turn out better than he could have ever dreamed.

The story in Luke 8:22-25 of Jesus stilling the tempest begins with “Now it happened, on a certain day....” It would be easy to pass over the phrase “on a certain day” as just transitional, but the words are actually pulsating with meaning. It was on this “certain” day that the Lord sowed the seed of His word into their hearts and then demonstrated their truth in action as He stilled the sea, healed the sick, and raised the dead. The disciples learned to receive the Word of God on this “certain day” in the manner that you and I are to receive it in all our days, and in the face of whatever storms we find ourselves in.

The ongoing dynamic and power of the Resurrection is available to enter our lives at any time to turn back the unpredictibles of life and reverse the death-dealing intrusion that goes on around us. During his ministry, Jesus reversed death for three people: the widow's son, Jairus' daughter, and Lazarus. His own resurrection confirms for all time His will to reverse the death-dealing power of a hopeless future, of confused thinking about God, and of fatalistic prophecy.
